MICHIGAN DEMOCRATIC JEWISH CAUCUS APPALLED BY PRESENCE OF NEO-NAZIS AT MOTOR CITY PRIDE

The Executive Board of the Michigan Democratic Jewish Caucus issued the following statement regarding recent events at Motor City Pride:

LANSING, Mich. — “We are appalled and disgusted by the appearance of bona fide neo-Nazis at the 2019 Motor City Pride parade in the heart of Detroit this past weekend. Early reports of the incident indicate members of the "National Socialist Movement (NSM)" disrupted and intimidated Pride marchers by wearing Nazi armbands emblazoned with the swastika, making the Nazi salute, urinating on an Israeli flag, and ripping apart a rainbow Pride flag. To be clear, these provocations made by the NSM members are both homophobic and antisemitic, and we condemn them unequivocally. The Michigan Democratic Jewish Caucus will always stand up for the rights of LGBT+ Americans, Jewish Americans, and all those who desire to gather in peace.

"We live at a perilous moment for minority communities in America. The President of the United States has emboldened groups like the NSM to intimidate and threaten various communities, including the Jewish and LGBT+ communities. We deserve a president who elicits the best in each and every one of us. He must be replaced.”
