Chair
Jessica "Decky" Alexander
is a professor of drama/theatre education at Eastern Michigan University and Director of Engage@EMU, an office whose mission is to cultivate community and university collaboration EMU, she is also a founding faculty member of its Center for Jewish Studies. Most recently, she served as the President of the Jewish Federation of Greater Ann Arbor and is currently co-chair of its Jewish Community Relations Committee. Decky is also the incoming VP of Development for the Temple Beth Emeth (TBE) in Ann Arbor. In the political space Decky has been an active campaigner and supporter for various candidates including: Washtenaw County Prosecutor Eli Savit, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, State Representatives Felicia Brabec and Jason Morgan. She currently is the 5th VP of the Michigan Democratic Party under the leadership of Curtis Hertel. Originally from the North Shore of Chicago, Decky has been in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti Area since she arrived here for graduate school in the mid-1900’s. She is married to Bruce Kutinsky, a current Federation board member, and they live in north Ann Arbor with their cats, Sunny and Midnight.

Events Chair
Debbie Rosenman
Debbie is a retired Troy Schools elementary school teacher and a long time union leader. Since her retirement in 2019, she has become a full-time community organizer and activist. She is the chair of the Birmingham Bloomfield Area Democratic Club and the co-chair of Fems for Dems. She is also one of the leaders of the Indivisible Fighting 9 in Ferndale. In addition to her activist work, Debbie is an instructional coach for new teachers through the ARC Program at Schoolcraft College. Living in Bloomfield Township, she is married to her Israeli husband and has two grown sons.

Roslyn Schindler
Dr. Roslyn Schindler is Associate Professor Emerita of Interdisciplinary Studies, German, and Holocaust Studies. Her career, both as a teacher and administrator, spanned 42 years at Wayne State University (Detroit, MI) and several years at other institutions. Roz has a longtime record of research and scholarship in interdisciplinary studies and adult learning as well as in Holocaust Studies. The daughter of Holocaust survivors, she has published book chapters on the memoirs of several new or neglected German Holocaust survivor-authors and published a memoir about Goldie Seidner Abt: (Re)vision of a Life: My Mother’s Holocaust Story. Roz taught courses in the Humanities, German, and a memoir-based Holocaust course entitled “Bearing Witness: Understanding the Holocaust One Life at a Time.” In retirement, she is actively involved in volunteer work for her synagogue (Congregation T’chiyah, Ferndale), Detroit Jews for Justice (DJJ), the Association for Interdisciplinary Studies, and the Democratic party. Roz is on the Board as Secretary of the Democrats of South Oakland County and on the Board of the Michigan Democratic Jewish Caucus. She is also a Democratic Precinct Delegate in Huntington Woods.

Membership Chair
David A. Lauer
David Lauer Attended the University Of Michigan & Oakland University. He studied an interdisciplinary education through the CFE/PIE in Entrepreneurial studies and Philosophy. David Has Been in the worlds of finance as an independent Mortgage broker and CRE private equity lender , a Community Organizer and Non profit leader. He currently owns a contracting and painting business in the lower Oakland county area. David became politically active during Hilary Clinton’s campaign as a canvasser and volunteer. He also volunteered and campaigned for various judges in the Oakland county area in 2016. Recently David was active with one Campaign for Kamala Harris 2024 and Elissa Slotkin. David is a JFNA Cabinet Member representing The Jewish Federation of Greater Ann Arbor , where he also sits on the board. David Looks forward to serving as the Membership Chair for MDJC adding his perspectives, expertise, and network to the table. We are all in this together. What better time to become active in politics. We look forward to hearing your voice in 2026.​

Outreach Co-Chair
Dr. Adam Duberstein
Dr. Adam Duberstein is honored to serve as the Outreach Co-Chair for the Michigan Democratic Jewish Caucus. Adam is employed as a fully-licensed clinical psychologist in private practice. In addition to
providing patient care, Adam serves as an adjunct professor at the Michigan School of
Psychology, where he teaches a variety of courses to aspiring psychotherapists.
Adam studies the intersection of public policy and mental health, and he has a strong interest in working with elected officials, activists, and others who endeavor to make the world a better place. His research focuses on psychology licensure; preventing discrimination against bully breed dogs; and Jewish identity development. For more than 25 years, Adam has campaigned for Democratic candidates across Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana. He enjoys providing candidates with top-quality research on the issues that will help them win their races. Adam is also no stranger himself to being an elected official, as he is a former elected member of the Hazel Park District Library Board. A lifelong Midwesterner, Adam has served as a precinct delegate in both Michigan and Ohio. He is a former member of the Oakland County Democratic Party Executive Committee, and he currently serves as a member of the Michigan Democratic State Central Committee. A proud union member, Adam is part of the American Federation of Teachers Local #6618, and he is also a member of the Royal Oak Area Democratic Club. Adam resides in Clawson, Michigan, where he is active in a variety of community and civicgroups. He has a pack of rescued dogs, several nieces and nephews, and his kind and patient
partner. Outside politics, Adam can be found listening to music of all kinds or restoring his older
house.

Southwest Michigan Chair/Outreach Co-Chair/MDP At-Large Central Committee
Troy Zukowski-Serlin
Troy Zukowski-Serlin (Southwest Michigan Chair/Outreach Co-Chair/At-Large MDP Central Committee) is a member of the Kalamazoo County Democratic Party. He grew-up in Battle Creek, Michigan and currently resides with his wife, Michelle Zukowski-Serlin, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The social worker couple co-owns Choices for Change Counseling Agency in Kalamazoo, Michigan. They are very active politically in the Kalamazoo area. Both are members of three Jewish houses of prayer (two Reform and one Conservative). Troy is a prolific writer on politics, culture, religion, history, travel, and sports. Troy holds a B.S. in Religion and a M.S.W. from Western Michigan University. He also earned a Certificate in Jewish Leadership from the Spertus Institute/Northwestern University and recently completed the two-year "Context" program for lay leaders through the Jewish Theological Seminary in NYC. He is currently enrolled in the Foundations in Conflict Transformation and Reconciliation Program at Duke (University) Divinity School in Durham, North Carolina.

Joan Lowenstein
Joan is active in Michigan and Ann Arbor Democratic politics. She served on the Ann Arbor City Council for 8 years and also on Ann Arbor's Downtown Development Authority. She is a retired lawyer and started her career in Oklahoma as a television reporter. Joan is a past-president of the Jewish Federation of Greater Ann Arbor and is in her penultimate year on the board of the National Women's Philanthropy, part of Jewish Federations of North America. In 2025 she was appointed to the Michigan Democratic Party Central Committee.
